Vern Scott of the Monarch Community in St. Charles, Va. was born in the Rock Lick Community on Saturday, July 19, 1924 and passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Big Stone Gap, Va. at the age of 86 years. She had lived in Lee County, Va. her entire life.
Vern was a homemaker, a member of the Pocahontas Lodge, Morning Star Council #5 of St. Charles, Va. and a member of the Beacon Light Baptist Church in Monarch. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Scott and one son Donald Scott. Six brothers, George, Floyd, Dave, Elmer, Theodore and Buford Thomas. Four sisters, Ketsia Sage, Elsie Reynolds, Hafford Willis and Margaret Bell. Vern is survived by her children Becky Scott Hale and husband, Richard of Indianapolis, In., Fay Scott Mayes of Monarch and Kenneth Scott and wife, Beverly of Kingsport, TN., special granddaughter Kelle Newman and husband, Chris of Jonesville, Va. and grandchildren Chris, Patrick, Hope, Rich, Rachel, April, Brock, Matt, Amanda and Ashley, Lance, Devin, Daniel, McKenzie, Amber, Mason, Whitney, Rhylee, Madison and Lucas, one sister Bonnie Bartley of Indianapolis, In. Several Nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Jerry Scott and Ray Bowlin officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM Saturday until the time of the service. The graveside service will be at 10:00 AM Sunday at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va. The family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 AM Sunday to go to the cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
